Social Media- Meaning & Value
Posted on | July 5, 2010 | No Comments
Excellent presentation. The one phrase that strikes me, and is the essence of social media..”social media is about becoming part of the culture, add value, engage, listen act. More important – empower”.
This stands true for management at any level, especially so in this Gen Y , Gen X workplace. I have taken this to heart in my operations – have you?

Web 2.0 in the Classroom. Teachers, Administrators- Pay Attention
Posted on | June 22, 2010 | No Comments
I still find many of the challenges of today’s classroom teachings have not been fully addressed, nor understood, by the typcial North American school board, system…teacher.
Web 2.0 – the real time, collaborative, crowd sourcing, social media delivery of ‘information- of any type is producing learners (think grade school), who are looking for challenges and answers to questions…now.
Not in long drawn out theoretical explanations- but in real term- real time solutions.
Some proof? Check out our post on the ’student vision of today” and to further push a point through- this Prezi presentation (which is way cool)
Before the fall term starts teachers- and to give you something to think about over a long summer break…

Vision of Students and the Need for Open Communication
Posted on | June 7, 2010 | No Comments
Many of you may have already seen this video- but whether you are a teacher or student, it does make you pause and think about how the relationship and communication between teacher (I’ll say school/institution) and student has changed over the last five years. The insertion of social media and viral communication via the Internet has had more then a profound impact on the way students learn and communicate, it has altered the methods and strategies of teaching and the dissemination of knowledge between teacher- student. Many teachers will feel like they have been hit in the gut after watching this video- students will feel like it is a money game. Either way bridging the gap in order to ensure knowledge is being transferred effectively and efficiently is one of the biggest challenges facing schools in the coming years. Gen X, Gen Y see things differently then many of the teachers in classrooms today- I say it starts with them as leaders.
