Management 101- The “New School” is NOW!

We have added a short tutorial brought to us and modified through an email from a user of MiLearn.

Think of how things ‘were’ in the workplace (mostly the baby – boomers), and then think of the direction management is heading towards; a more inclusive role in the lives of the workforce- a more collaborative and less combative environment- producing in the majority of circumstances, higher outputs and greater achievements.

Look at the table in our tutorial (listed in our “Business” section- see Management 101), to see the distinct differences in management styles…’then’ and ‘now’.

When you think about it, the process of managing people is not as difficult as it seems. Mostly it takes a lot of common sense and an understanding of how we wish to be treated and respected. However, we still have people who believe micro-managing others- overseeing every minute detail, to a point of stifling any ownership, creativity, and pride stemming from a productive work place, is best, because “I am the boss:, “I know best”.

I am sure many of us have run into these dinosaurs at least once in our lifetime- in my case a number of times unfortunately.

They just don’t get it. And when you look around at that workplace they think they are managing- it is more unproductive, then productive, more inefficient, then efficient, and more negative, then positive.

And these managers don’t see it, or get it (they are not bright enough from a human relations perspective to know that this is happening)

So- let us empower, engage and work in unison- with strong leadership paving the way.

Cheers
Michael
